Kansas City has one of the deepest public pickleball scenes in the country, and a lot of it is free. You don’t need a membership or a reservation to play — the metro’s cities have built and re-striped dozens of outdoor courts in public parks that are open to anyone during park hours. This guide lists the real, free, public courts across the KC metro, organized by area, so you can find the closest one and just show up.
One honest note first: “free” here means the outdoor park courts. The indoor gyms at community centers usually charge a small drop-in fee, and the dedicated clubs (Chicken N Pickle, The Picklr, Ace) are paid or membership. Free courts in Overland Park
Overland Park has more courts than any other KC suburb, and several are free city-park courts:
- Meadowbrook Park — 8 dedicated outdoor courts (Johnson County Park & Rec), the largest free block on the Kansas side.
- Switzer Park — 4 dedicated courts, lit for evening play.
- Antioch Acres Park and Maple Hills Park — 2 dedicated courts each, recently built and lit.
- Young’s Park — dedicated courts built alongside the resurfaced tennis courts.

Free courts in Olathe, Lenexa & Shawnee
- Two Trails Park (Olathe) — 6 dedicated outdoor courts with lights, restrooms, and water.
- Bois D’Arc Park (Lenexa) — 8 dedicated lit courts; free first-come, and also reservable through the City.
- Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park (Lenexa) — 2 outdoor courts near the central trail system.
- Listowel Park and Herman Laird Park (Shawnee) — courts remade from tennis courts, with permanent pickleball lines and portable nets.
Free courts in Leawood & Prairie Village
- Leawood City Park — 12 courts striped for both pickleball and tennis, free open play with coin-operated lights.
- Harmon Park and Windsor Park (Prairie Village) — free neighborhood courts, lit for evenings.
Free courts on the Missouri side & KCK
- E.H. Young Riverfront Park (Riverside) — 8 dedicated courts in a riverfront park with parking and shade.
- Macken Park (North Kansas City) — 6 outdoor courts lined for pickleball, with lights.
- Wyandotte County Lake Park (KCK) — 4 courts that opened in 2023, inside the larger lake park.
- Brookside Park and Arbor Villa Park (KCMO) — free courts in the Brookside area.
Dedicated vs. tennis-lined: what to expect
Not all “pickleball courts” are the same. Some KC park courts are dedicated — purpose-built, permanently lined, with pickleball nets always up (Meadowbrook, Switzer, Two Trails, Bois D’Arc, E.H. Young). Others are tennis courts lined for pickleball, where you bring or set up a portable net (Herman Laird, Macken, Harmon). Both are free and fun; the dedicated courts are just more convenient if you don’t want to carry a net.
