How to Raise Your DUPR Rating

Your DUPR ratingreflects how you actually perform against real opponents. So raising it isn’t about gaming a number — it’s about playing more, playing up, and getting better. Here’s what actually moves it.

Play — and log — rated matches

A rating only reflects the games it can see. The most basic step is to play rated matches and record the results consistently. More logged games means a higher reliability score and a rating that tracks your real level. Sporadic play leaves your rating stale.

Challenge up

Because DUPR measures you against expectation, beating easier opponents barely moves you — you were supposed to win. The fastest way to climb is to play people slightly better than you and exceed the prediction. It also makes you better, which is the real point.

Win with the soft game

Against stronger players, banging drives gets punished. The skills that let you hang with — and beat — better opponents are the dink, the third shot drop, and patience. Improving your game and improving your rating are the same project.

Be consistent

Ratings reward steady, recent play over one-off performances. A regular cadence of competitive matches keeps your reliability high and your number honest — which is exactly what lets you find fair, fun games.
